Yesterday, A friend and I took a ferry ride from the tip of New Jersey to Delaware and back again.
It was a first for the both of us and we were bursting with excitement. (I LOVE life experiences, no matter how big or small)
Our boarding was peppered with smiles and intentional eye contact and expressions of gratitude toward men in black jumpsuits and neon hats. Does it ever amaze you how we are all living such different lives and different stories?
Man...its crazy to me
I digress.
The ferry has 3 levels (with an outside deck on each one) and on the middle deck was an interior space similar to the inside of a train except it also had a bar and café. Inside was quiet and warm. We spent most of the ride to Delaware outside looking at the water, people watching, hoping to spot some seals, seeing how close we could come to the edge of the boat, taking photos and making random excited outbursts of "This is SO awesome!!!!"
When we had been outside long enough for our hands and feet to freeze through our gloves and boots, we came inside, ate ferry cheeseburgers and the view was just as beautiful.
We talked about everything from our jobs, love and traveling to the way birds fly over the water.
She is a person who is both bursting with life and metaphors and wisdom but she is a person I can be silent with. She is strong in both conviction and compassion. She's a talented artist and she is full of wonder. When you're exhausted and sleep isn't equivalent to rest and your soul could use some sun, she is your girl.
Needless to say, I have a feeling that the ferry and I will become VERY well acquainted in the months between now and the summer.
Its got to be one of the most perfect places I've seen to get out and write, read, or to just get away and think.
I needed that day.
If you haven’t in a while, this week, I encourage you to make time to do something you've never done before!
