I was talking to an old friend on the phone today about life and about the type people who have either had romantic interest in us or who we've been in relationships with in our lives. Many people lose neglect or edit themselves in attempt to find or be loved. We talked about how it is sometimes hard to navigate the way to finding the sort of person that you’re an even better version of yourself with.
If you're running your race and connect yourself with someone isn't running their own race, it's like attaching yourself to them with resistance bands. if they're not running with you, they're creating resistance in your race.
"Resistance training is simply a form of training in which you're working against some type of force that "resists" your movement. ....Ever try running in water? It's a lot harder and you move noticeably slower-because the resistance of the water is greater than when you run on land. More resistance means your muscles have to work harder."
A girl I know who does cross fit runs dragging a 50lb weight behind her. She does this so that when its time to race, she’s trained to run harder and can then run even faster without the resistance of the weight.
Resistance training is useful but you don't want to be in a swimming pool or still dragging and extra 50lbs when it's time to run full speed.
I think that sometimes, God places us with resistant places or people that may not ever run with us to train us and so that we'll be able to run the race with more endurance and strength for the next season. Other times, when we find ourselves in places of resistance, as we continue to faithfully run, who/what we're attached to catches some of our momentum and begins to move as well.
It is not for us to choose our regiment but rather to follow the one prescribed for us and trust that is was specifically tailored with our best interest in mind.
Sometimes, in all our zeal, we try to choose the training ourselves. Or recognizing the benefit of resistance training, and wanting to be stronger, we may begin to take on resistance that wasn't prescribed for us. This is where serious injuries start to enter the equation. Its important to follow training with specific instruction from a trainer or coach who knows what you need an will choose the levels and specific types of resistance you need to reach your full potential.
Stay in your lane. Run in your lane. Stick with your training. I would venture to say that as you remain faithful to the things God's called you to and as you wait for the person God may have for you, it's sometimes easy to buy into potential, but friend, potential is in everyone. One day when you're out there headed to wherever you're going on focused on running well, maybe you'll come across someone headed your way and they'll come up and run alongside you.
