You came with the beginning of summer.
Like the sun
bringing warmth and hope and inviting things to come out from hiding and to grow.
full of promise, adventure, and laughter
relief from months of snow and rain
but then
As if like clockwork, just as in years past, the days grew colder.
As the sun feels further and further away, all that has grown is cut back again and becomes dormant
my hand is no longer in yours.
I am alone in the winter and I warm my hands by rubbing them together and with the breath from inside myself
So I take my love for you
I take my love for you and rub it between the palms of my hands
I close my eyes and try to remember how it feels to hold
then I purse my lips and blow out
I send my love for you into the wind.
